Seems like a contradictory term, right? Well, although I can’t call my style bold, I like to make a statement now and again. However, you won’t see any pattern clashing or super brights around here. Instead, I prefer to make a style statement in an understated manner, and the SS17 trends make this effortless. So how can you go about making an understated style statement?

A STATEMENT SLEEVE
Ruffles, peplums, trumpet sleeves, whatever you want to call them, they’re in. A statement sleeve is a painless way to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to an otherwise plain outfit. The SS17 trends have seen the standard blouse elevated to a thing of ruffled wonder, and I’m all for it. Keep things simple, and just let the sleeves do the talking.
A POP OF COLOUR
Once again, brights are huge this season, and colourful accessories are everywhere right now. Whether it’s a popping pair of mules, a colourful scarf or a simple but bold bag, SS17 has made it ridiculously easy to add some colour into your wardrobe. Accessorise a monochrome look with a bright bag to dress up a dull outfit.
LABEL IT UP
Now, I don’t own anything designer, but if I did, you can guarantee I’d be wearing it within an inch of its life! My Ray-Bans are about as premium as my wardrobe gets, but I rock them at every opportunity. They add a touch of luxe to my entirely high street wardrobe, proving that a little bit of branding can go a long way.
SHOW SOME SKIN
As somebody who largely covers up, this might seem like odd advice coming from me! However, as I build a bit of a tan through the summer months, I’ll be whipping my legs out as much as possible. If you don’t like your legs, a crop top might be for you. Don’t like your tummy? Perhaps a bardot or a cold shoulder! There are hundreds of ways to flash some flesh in an understated and stylish way.
