There are no words to describe how excited I am to introduce you to blye.co.uk! When I announced I was changing my name last week, I felt incredibly apprehensive. It’s something that’s been on my mind for months, but that I’ve been postponing out of fear. All these worries have been flying around my head: “Will people think it’s pretentious? How can I know it’s definitely the right name for me? What if everybody unfollows me?” It’s exhausting being such a chronic overthinker, but I’m happy to say that as soon as I hit publish on the announcement video, all of my fears dissipated like a wisp of cloud in the summer. Sharing my new website with you today only confirms my convictions.
If you’re not up to speed, I’ve decided to go back to my roots and take more of a music focus online. I’ve struggled with mental health problems for four years, and in that time, I feel like I’ve lost track of who I am and, more importantly, who I want to be. This autumn was a particularly difficult time for me, but as horrible as it was, my crisis drove some serious soul searching. Sometimes the things you’re looking for are right under your nose, and for me, it turns out that the 13 year old who uploaded cover songs to YouTube under another name has been whispering in my ear the entire time. I realised that I can’t die with the knowledge that I didn’t even try, so changing my name is creating a fresh start for myself while also going back to my beginnings. It’s leaving all of the things I hate about myself in the past while also rediscovering all of the things I loved about myself within the past. The girl who uploaded videos to YouTube was Blye, and now she is Blye again.
With the completion of my website comes a new online identity, so naturally, things are going to change across all of my platforms. Today’s post is an introduction to all of those changes, so let me talk you through what you can expect from my website, my YouTube channels and my social media platforms.
The product links in this post are affiliate links. See my about page for what this means.
This space will operate less like a blog and more like a website. From the homepage, you can access my music channel, my makeup channel and my blog via the navigational images. Below those, you can watch my latest YouTube videos, shop to your heart’s content and discover my Instagram. You can also access the blog from the homepage or the menu at any time. If you’d like some audio stimulation while you read, scroll down to the bottom of the page and listen to the mix that’s inspiring my songwriting at the moment. It’s an eclectic bunch of songs and I’m sure there’s something for everybody. It’s my hope that I can replace it with my own music someday!
My YouTube channels are undergoing some changes, too. Subscribe to my music channel for a weekly vlog documenting my journey as an aspiring musician and person of the internet, as well as weekly cover videos and some of my own music, too. I’m keeping things simple over there, so they won’t be fully mixed tracks for now. However, we’ll address that later in the post. You can also subscribe to my makeup channel for super short tutorials with snappy editing, bright colours and unusual looks, as well as the occasional fashion video. Appearance and music are closely linked for lots of musicians, and it’s no different for me. In my mind, my makeup is my warpaint and my outfit is my armour.
My website and YouTube channels would be nothing without social media, so you can find me everywhere at @blyeofficial from here forwards. My Instagram has already taken a more colourful turn, and I’m really proud of how it’s looking. I think I’m doing something a bit different to most people using the platform, so I’d love you to join me there if you aren’t following me already! Also, be sure to follow my Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and Tumblr which I will be using in their own individual ways going forwards. Finally, Bloglovin is a great way to stay on top of my posts, Soundcloud will be the first place to see my mixed music, and feel free to follow my inspiration mix on Spotify to hear what I’m listening to!
