JULY 2018 MIXTAPE

We're already an entire week into August so it's time to share July's playlist! I've spent the last couple of weeks producing my first single which will be coming out in September, so in trying to create my own sound, I've been studying a lot of pop music and this is definitely reflected in the monthly mixtape.

This month is fairly female heavy, with pop icons like Christina Aguilera and Ariana Grande bringing their powerhouse vocals to two beautiful and empowering songs. I instantly fell in love with 'God is a woman' the moment I heard it and the incredible video only cemented it as one of my favourite songs of the year so far. If you'd like to hear my cover, you can check that out here. Meanwhile, Christina delivers all of the feels in the form of 'Maria' which is a spiritual account of her journey to find herself. Worth listening to for the Jackson 5 sample alone!

Two of the more emotional tracks are 'Thru These Tears' by LANY and 'Dying In LA' by Panic! At The Disco. The former is the first LANY release since lead singer Paul's breakup with a certain Dua Lipa. As fans of both, I won't offer any judgement, but despite being a fairly simple song, it really packs a punch to the gut. This is the one to blast in your car if you're coming out the other side of your own relationship issues at the moment! As for 'Dying In LA', this gorgeous piano ballad recounts the heartbreaking and relatable struggle of pursuing your dreams as an artist. For somebody about to embark on their own journey to 'make it', this is a slightly somber listen!

If you prefer soul and R&B, then last month's mixtape might be more suited to you, but if a pop playlist is right up your street, then feel free to listen to the July mixtape via the embedded Spotify playlist below. There are also links to YouTube, but as you'll know if you saw David Crosby's tweet last week, YouTube's streaming rates are abysmal, so please listen via your preferred music service where possible. I"m especially passionate about this as somebody about to release their own music, so thank you if you can do this!

Be sure to follow me on Spotify to stay up to date with the monthly mixtapes!
